Responsibilities:
- Creating awareness, sensitization, and capacity building to the coastal communities on the importance of natural ecosystems.
- Participating in advocacy, training and awareness meetings/workshops on legal representation and opportunities for BMU networks (including small scale and artisanal fishers) towards their rights in natural resource use and management.
- Empowering the local community members including artisanal fishers and women in fish trade on how to take responsibility for good ocean stewardship which will not only conserve the environment but also sustainably improving their well-being.
- Empowering coastal communities on the practice of sustainable mariculture practices such as seaweed farming and eco-friendly shrimp farming and mud crab production as alternative livelihood activities.
- Empowering and sensitizing the community on the importance of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and the Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs) towards improving the integrity of the marine ecosystem and improving their livelihoods.
- Carrying out mangrove rehabilitation and restoration exercises at specific project sites in Kwale, Mombasa, and Kilifi counties.
- Promoting protection and conservation of sea turtles along the Kenyan Coast.
- Creating awareness of Ramsar Site conservation in Kenya.
- Carrying out remote sensing with the use of GIS in the coastal ecosystems of Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale Counties.
- Monitoring of site-specific project site.
- Preparing fieldwork reports, monthly, quarterly and project progress reports as required by the organization.
