Activities

Ocean World of Sound (WOS) is the first Passive Acoustic Monitoring Program in the Mesoamerican Reef (MAR). We have three key objectives:
  1. Promoting Research: We aim to advance scientific knowledge by providing essential baseline data that serves as a valuable resource for researchers studying the MAR. We collaborate with Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) not only to contribute to their conservation efforts but also ensure that our research aligns with their management goals.

  2. Innovating at the intersection of Art and Science: We strive to bridge the gap between art and science by developing methodologies that combine these disciplines. Through workshops, online courses, and experimentation, we give new tools to both artists and scientists.

  3. Engaging the Community through Active Participation: We believe in the power of citizen science and community as vital components of conservation efforts. Through online materials, workshops, and volunteer opportunities. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility, strengthening the bond between the people and their marine environment.

WOS is a project endorsed by the IOC Executive Secretary as part of the UN Ocean Decade.
