Dr Nayar leads the Aquaculture program and manages the Algal
Production Group. He has for over two decades led an applied, industry focused,
research program developing micro- and macroalgal production systems for high
value applications of the sustainably cultivated biomass. Using a
multidisciplinary and collaborative approach, Dr. Nayar and his team tackle
significant scientific and societal challenges. These include bioremediation of
wastewater, bioassimilation of nitrogen, carbon and phosphorus, valorisation of
aquaculture waste streams, alongside advancing algal aquaculture for novel marine
bio-products. Their efforts are closely integrated with government and industry
partners to ensure alignment with practical needs and sustainability goals. Dr
Nayar has a deep commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and its practical
applications in addressing pressing environmental and economic challenges. His
leadership in algal biology and aquaculture underscores his pivotal role in
driving innovation and sustainable development within these fields with the
ultimate focus on advancing the South Australian Aquaculture industry.
