Activities
PhD in Marine Sciences and Technologies. He is Full Professor at Universidad Nacional de Colombia and the director of OCEANICOS research group (ranked A1 at Ministry of sciences). Currently is the Executive Director of the Center of Excellence in Marine Sciences – CEMARIN (www.cemarin.org). He was elected to the National Research Council of Colombia (2022-2024). He has experience in Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) and Coastal Management (CM), Renewable Marine Energies, Numerical modeling for reanalysis and forecasting and designing solutions (Natural based Solutions) for coasts and oceans engineering. He has been involved in a handful of international projects such as: CoastView (vigilance of coastal systems in European countries), a software development named Sistema de Modelado Costero SMC (Coastal Modeling System) (www.smc.unican.es), National Ocean Policy of Panama (for UN), Technical assistant for sustainable development of ocean in Galapagos and Ecuador (for World Bank) and a technological strategy for climate change adaptation in coastal areas in Colombia (UNEP-Riso), among others. Professor Osorio has advised several PhD and Master students (more than 50), has written several papers (more than ~100) and presented his research in international conferences and his participation in many international consulting projects put him as a part of the international experts in Coastal Engineering, Marine Energy and MSP in the Center and South America.
