Activities
Since joining the Department of Marine Administration in 2016, has been actively engaged in marine environmental protection, pollution preparedness and response, and the implementation of IMO conventions; contributed to the drafting of key national instruments, including the Yangon River Oil Spill Contingency Plan (2017–2018) and the National Contingency Plan for Marine Pollution, as well as the regional contingency planning (2018–2022) under the Oil for Development Programme in collaboration with the Norwegian Coastal Administration, which included sensitivity mapping of Myanmar’s coastal areas; having extensive experience in organizing and facilitating national workshops on oil spill preparedness and response, and she has completed specialized training in environmental management in the upstream oil and gas sector and the UNEP–Norway Global Training on Environmental Considerations of Gas Processing and Treatment (2022); served as the Alternate National Focal Point for the IMO–NORAD Project, contributing to the enhancement of Myanmar’s international cooperation in marine environmental governance; participated in the Integrated Coastal Management Training and the Climate Adaptation in Coastal Communities of Myanmar Programme under the Denmark–Myanmar Country Programme (2018–2023) and the Integrated Coastal Management Awareness Seminar (2019); served as the presenting co-author of the research paper “Challenges Facing Myanmar in Developing a National Contingency Plan for Marine Pollution” at the International Oil Spill Conference (New Orleans, USA) in 2020; currently involved in the development of the Marine Pollution Law for Myanmar, encompassing the incorporation of major IMO conventions—MARPOL, OPRC, BWMC, AFS, CLC, and BUNKER—and their associated regulations and guidelines; contributing to the drafting of the National Strategy for the Implementation of IMO Instruments; participated in the development of the National Maritime Transport Policy and in preparing the Annual Report on Evaluation and Review of Flag State Implementation, Port State Control Performance, and Coastal State Activities.
Skills
Professional skills encompass marine environmental governance, policy development, and IMO convention implementation, with demonstrated experience in national and regional coordination, inter-agency collaboration, workshop facilitation, and international cooperation. Contributions extend to the drafting of the Marine Pollution Law, National Strategy for Implementation of IMO Instruments, and the National Maritime Transport Policy, strengthening Myanmar’s capacity in sustainable maritime and environmental management.
